Rome is a city for tourists. If you are staying in a Rome hotel in the
centre of this lovely city, you are perfectly placed to see its sights.
Ancient Rome abounds, from the Coliseum and the Pantheon to the Forum,
the marketplace of Ancient Rome. You can travel on a boat trip down the
Tiber, or visit one of the many museums and art galleries.
Rome
has a beauty all its own, which is partly due to its architecture.
There are many beautiful side streets where the small hotels and wine
bars are, as well as larger open areas where you can sit to watch the
world go by. Much of its beauty is in its magnificent churches.
Not
to be missed is a visit to the Vatican, and the magnificent Renaissance
art of Michelangelo and Raphael, seen as it should be seen, alive and
vibrant. Though technically a city in its own right, the Vatican is
situated in the heart of Rome, and you can even stay in a hotel in this
holy city, so that you could walk out of your hotel doorway and be
greeted by the sight of St Peter's Basilica in the early morning light.

Near
to Rome is the lost city of Pompeii, covered in volcanic ash and
recently excavated. This is a unique trip where you can see both the
houses and the people of this lost township preserved for ever by the
eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Most Rome hotels have details of day trips
and many will arrange these for you. You are also only a day trip away
from the Amalfi coast, right by the sea.
A holiday in Rome is
less expensive than you might think, compared to many European cities,
as the Rome itself is compact, most places being within walking
distance in the city itself and many of the attractions being free to
look at and admire. One of Rome's best activities, that of people
watching, is also free or only the price of an espresso in one of the
many cafe bars.
